Taco John's new wings provide sales bump

December 13, 2011

Taco John's recently launched TJ Baja Boneless Wings have provided the quick-service chain with a sales boost, according to Renée Middleton, vice president of marketing.

The wings are available in three Mexican-inspired flavors, including Honey Habanero, Sweet Chipotle BBQ and Bold Buffalo.

"We've seen a significant sales increase this fall, and it's due to TJ Baja Boneless Wings," Middleton said. "Introduced in the heart of football season, they've been a hit — especially in smaller communities where customers have limited options for wings."

Bob Karisny, vice president for menu strategy and innovation, added that the wings' success comes from their unique flavor twists.

"We talked to fast food guests and found they wanted convenient wings without sacrificing quality — no 'nuggets.' They also wanted bold flavors. So we bridged the gap by combining high-quality wings with unexpected Mexican flavors to offer something unique," he said.

TJ Baja Boneless Wings are available in three sizes ranging from 5 ounces ("try 'em" size) to a full pound ("share 'em" size).

Originally intended as a limited-time offer, TJ Baja Boneless Wings were introduced in late October and were going to be promoted throughout the football season and into 2012. However, because of the wings' success, they have been added as a permanent item on Taco John's menu.

"With TJ Baja Boneless Wings, we're going beyond just serving a spicy wing," Middleton said. "We're changing the way our guests perceive us, both as a Mexican restaurant and as a QSR. And it's changing our sales for the better."
