Tim Hortons has cracked into a whole new type of fast food offering, announcing this week that it is the first major QSR to offer plant-based eggs as a test at some of its Canadian locations. The coffee centered chain is trying out a brand of plant-based eggs known as JUST Egg, according to CNBC.
A spokesperson for Just Egg said Canada is one of the most requested markets for the plant-sourced eggs. It is not, however, the first plant-based initiative at the chain, which has made numerous additions to the menu that provide meat substitutes in recent months.
Earlier this year, the Restaurant Brands International chain introduced imitation sausage on a trio of breakfast sandwiches, while last week it said its plant-based burger was made available in 4,000 Canadian stores.
The burger and sausage products are both made with Beyond Meat products, Tim Hortons said.
