Tim Hortons signs NHL agreements

October 12, 2010

Hockey fans in Pittsburgh and Long Island, N.Y. can now enjoy a coffee and a donut during the game. Tim Horton's has signed agreements to establish units at the Consol Energy Center, home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Nassau Coliseum, home of the New York Islanders.

The kiosk units will sell many of Tim Horton's signature items, including coffee, cappuccinos and Timbits.

Tim Hortons already exists at Joe Louis Arena, home of the Detroit Red Wings; Nationwide Arena, home of the Columbus Blue Jackets; and HSBC Arena, home of the Buffalo Sabres.

In March, Tim Hortons announced its expansion strategy, which includes a strong focus on non-traditional locations such as arenas and ballparks.

In addition to its NHL presence, Tim Hortons also has sponsorship or concession relationships in the NFL (Buffalo Bills) and NBA (Detroit Pistons), as well as at minor league baseball parks and NCAA stadiums, including Michigan Stadium.

Considering the company's roots, it makes sense that it continues to grow in such locations. NHL Hall-of-Famer Tim Horton founded the company in 1964. He played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, the New York Rangers, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Buffalo Sabres.

"We're proud to bring Tim Hortons coffee and Timbits to Pittsburgh and Long Island," said David Clanachan, chief operations officer, U.S. and International, Tim Hortons Inc. "Serving Penguins and Islanders fans is a natural fit, considering our heritage and ongoing connection with hockey."

Tim Hortons has more than 3,600 locations in North America.
