W. Va. McDonald's sells Big Macs for $100 for charity

October 30, 2013

McDonald's of Bridgeport, W. Va., has set two records this month. The restaurant, which has been in existence since 1976, was demolished in August and reopened in early October. The 43-day renovation marks a new speed record for the chain, according to a news release.

Also, to celebrate the new building's debut, the restaurant offered McDonald's signature Big Mac sandwich for a record-breaking price: $100.

Buyers had the opportunity to share their meal with Mike Delligatti, son of the sandwich's inventor, and contribute to local fundraising efforts.

The inflated selling price was the brainchild of Jack and John Ebert, the father/son team who together own 16 McDonald's restaurants in North Central West Virginia and Western Maryland. All proceeds from the unique promotion will be donated to local charities including Notre Dame High School in Clarksburg, W. Va., Ronald McDonald House in Morgantown, W. Va., and United Way of Harrison County.

"The people of Bridgeport have embraced McDonald's for almost 40 years. This Big Mac event was our way of giving back to the community that has been so kind to us. We're delighted to have raised more than $6,200 to support local charities," said John Ebert.

Renovation details

The renovated restaurant features a new, modern design. The interior includes a completely redesigned décor with decorative lighting, flatscreen televisions, updated seating and contemporary wall graphic designs. Outside, a new double lane drive-thru has been installed.

"This new design represents our guests' changing tastes and demand for a more inviting, upscale dining experience," said Jack Ebert. "Diners who want to eat in will enjoy the comfortable dining room design, while diners on-the-go can get their meal and back on the road more quickly than ever with the addition of the double-lane drive thru."
