Wendy's adds two Deluxe Value Meals

December 2, 2009

Wendy's has added two limited-time $2.99 Deluxe Value Meals to its line up. The meal features the choice of a Double Jr. Cheeseburger Deluxe or Crispy Chicken Deluxe and includes a small fry and small drink.

The Double Jr. Cheeseburger Deluxe features a beef patty, leaf lettuce, sliced beefsteak tomato, onion slices, American cheese and dill pickles. The Crispy Chicken Deluxe includes a white-meat chicken patty topped with thick Applewood Smoked Bacon, American cheese, tomato, hand-cut lettuce and mayonnaise.

The value meals are in addition to the chain's existing Super Value Menu — offering nine items, including three wraps and two burgers — and its line of combo meals, featuring an array of sandwiches.

Quick-serve restaurants have seen sales of combo meals and side items suffer during the economy, and chains from KFC to Wendy's sister chain Arby's have rolled out special value meal pricing.

Denny Lynch, corporate spokesman for Wendy's, said that the company is not disclosing how long the Deluxe meals will be available for that price. The company's Web site advises customers to "get them while they last at participating restaurants.

The new meals are supported by national advertising, including a 15-second spot featured on Wendy's YouTube channel. In the ad, two men compare $2.99 meals, with the Wendy's Deluxe Value Meal significantly larger than the other.
