Wendy's plans to bring home the (costlier) bacon

August 4, 2010

Wendy's chains have started switching up their bacon supply. Wendy's/Arby's Group Inc. restaurants have started to replace its cheaper bacon with a more costly Applewood-smoked, center-cut bacon for its premium sandwich line. The line includes the bacon deluxe and bacon & blue hamburgers.

According to the Dow Jones Newswires, other sandwich items, including the junior bacon cheeseburger, will still use the lower-priced bacon; however, Wendy's plans to add a new double junior bacon cheeseburger which will include the applewood-smoked bacon.

The upgraded sandwiches will likely have price adjustments because of the switch.

Wendy's has marketed the upgraded bacon as part of its "You Know When It's Real" campaign, launched in late 2009.
