Trian Fund Management, led by Nelson Peltz, is pushing to take Wendy's private with a group of investors, according to a Reuters report.
Wendy's shared were up 15% in morning trading. Trian, BlueFive Capital and Flynn Group are spearheading the takeover.
According to Reuters, a bid could be forthcoming. Peltz had attempted a takeover of the burger brand in 2022. He owns a 16.24% stake in Wendy's. Wendy's is valued at approximately $1.44 billion.
"The Wendy's Company's would thoroughly review any proposal submitted by Trian consistent with its fiduciary duties," Wendy's said in a statement to QSRweb. "The Board, together with the management team, regularly reviews the Company's strategic priorities and opportunities with the goal of maximizing value for all shareholders. We are moving with urgency and under Bob Wright's leadership as our new CEO, we have identified core strategic areas of focus to improve performance and turnaround the business."
