Customers in Lafayette, Ind. were the first to experience White Castle's new barbecue concept. The city was chosen from 420 White Castle restaurants in 11 states.
According to the Journal & Courier, the store was renamed White Castle/Blaze Modern BBQ to reflect the company's barbecue debut.
The new menu entails chicken, turkey, pork, sausage and beef items that can be topped with a choice of five sauces. Sides are also featured, including mashed potatoes, coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, baked beans and corn bread.
The Lafayette location also unveiled White Castle's first digital menu board.
From the story:
Lafayette was chosen for the debut "because of its business climate," said Vice President Jamie Richardson, visiting from White Castle Management Co.'s headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. "This is a historic day, a new chapter. Our customers still love our hamburgers, they just need a little barbecue now and then."
