Wienerschnitzel moves to 79-cent value offering

April 28, 2010

While Burger King has flirted with a $1 Double Cheeseburger, leading hot dog chain Wienerschnitzel apparently has found $1 isn't value enough. The chain is lowering the price of its formerly 99-cent Corn Dog to 79 cents. The value menu offer launched nationwide April 26 at participating locations.

"Wienerschnitzel is known for our delicious corn dogs which our guests crave and love to create new topping combinations for, including our signature chili," said Tom Amberger, vice president of marketing at Wienerschnitzel. "We're proud to offer this item ‘every darn day' at a terrific value."

For the nearly 50 years, Wienerschnitzel guests have enjoyed the company's signature Foster Farms' Chicken Corn Dog, which is coated with sweet honey corn batter and cooked to a golden finish. The launch of Wienerschnitzel's everyday value corn dog will be supported with television and radio advertising, direct mail, social media and in-store point-of-purchase materials, including creative guest tray liners featuring outlined circles for mustard and ketchup condiments.

Wienerschnitzel's UnDER $1 Menu, with all items at 99 cents, includes a Chili Burger Original Stadium, Chili Cheese Fries Burrito, three-pack of Jalapeno Poppers ,Mustard or Relish Dog andChocolate Dipped Small Cone.

A number of chains are continuing to focus on value and discounting as the economy remains challenging, although some signs indicate the recovery may slowly be taking off. Some experts saw the marked interest in KFC's Double Down meat-as-bun chicken sandwich as a sign consumers are beginning to be interested in innovation over price.
