Yum! Brands Inc. has been honored with PR Week's "Cause Related Campaign of the Year 2010" award for its World Hunger Relief efforts. Yum!'s charity is the world's largest private-sector hunger relief effort, spanning 110 countries and 37,000 KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Long John Silver's and A&W Restaurants. The program raises awareness, volunteerism and funds for United Nations World Food Programme and other hunger relief agencies.
According to PR Week, Yum! Brands, along with its lead global agency, Weber Shandwick, took the unique step of implementing a PR program "all about the cause: helping the UN World Food Programme and thousands of global relief agencies eliminate hunger." The PR Week Awards recognize the best corporate, nonprofit, agency and education teams.
Yum! Brands senior vice president Jonathan Blum offered his congratulations to those involved in the World hunger Relief program.
"As the world's largest restaurant company, we believe it is our privilege and responsibility to help find a meaningful solution to this critical problem and leave the world a better place than we found it," he said in a news release.
Nancy Roman, director of WFP's Public Policy, Communications and Private Partnership Division, acknowledged Yum! Brands role in hunger relief across the world. "If more companies followed Yum's lead in engaging their consumers in global problems like hunger, we'd have a better chance of solving them," she said.
