Last week, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America launched a national petition calling on Jack in the Box CEO Leonard Comma to enforce the company’s existing no-firearms-in-stores policy after a rifle-carrying demonstration took place at a Fort Worth, Texas, restaurant.
Texas law currently allows people to openly carry loaded rifles in public.
In response to the petition, Jack in the Box released a statement saying it will begin enforcing the policy. According to a news release, the petition received more than 5,000 signatures in its first day and was promoted by the social media hashtag #JackedUp.
"The presence of guns inside a restaurant could create an uncomfortable situation for our guests and employees and lead to unintended consequences," the company statement read.
According to VP of Corporate Communications Brian Luscomb, copies of the company's entire statement will be available in restaurants for employees to hand out to guests.
