Subway completes mobile payments deployment

October 2, 2014

Subway announced it has completed the rollout of the contactless/NFC-based mobile payments in partnership with Softcard. Subway customers can now use their mobile device to pay for their meals at the chain’s 26,000 locations throughout the US using the Softcard app.

Subway plans to integrate its Subway Card Rewards Program into the Softcard app, so users can earn points from their mobile payments.

"We're excited to give our customers a seamless way to enjoy SUBWAY offers and rewards through the Softcard app," Subway CIO Carman Wenkoff said in a news release. "By mobilizing our Subway Card Rewards Program in Softcard, we can offer customers an easier, more meaningful experience through the technology they use most – their smartphones."

Softcard CEO Michael Abbott said the Subway rollout marks the largest deployment of mobile payments in the US.
