Baskin-Robbins’ flavor creation contest winner now on menu

June 1, 2011

Baskin-Robbins' inaugural "Create Baskin's Next Favorite Flavor" contest winner, the Toffee Pecan Crunch conceptualized by Chicago's Diane Srogra, is now available nationwide as June's Flavor of the Month.

The contest received more than 40,000 entries and a nationwide vote. Toffee Pecan Crunch combines extra-rich, creamy chocolate ice cream with a caramel ribbon and crunchy bites of Heath bar and pecans.

Sroga visited Baskin-Robbins' corporate headquarters in Massachusetts recently to create the first batch of the flavor with Executive Chef Stan Frankenthaler and the chain's culinary team.

"We are enormously excited to introduce Toffee Pecan Crunch not only because it is a timeless flavor that will instantly become a favorite of ice cream lovers nationwide, but because it was created by one of Baskin-Robbins' most faithful ice cream enthusiasts," said Brian O'Mara, Baskin-Robbins' vice president of marketing.

Toffee Pecan Crunch is available in Baskin-Robbins shops nationwide during the month of June, and is available by the scoop, in a cup or cone, or as a Baskin-Robbins classic sundae. The flavor is also available in hand-packed pints, quarts and half-gallons.

A handful of QSRs have tapped into their customers' imaginations to help with product development ideas, including Baskin-Robbins' sister chain Dunkin' Donuts, which has held a "Create Dunkin's Next Donut" contest for the past two years.
