Burger King names Coyne as new PR agency

September 20, 2011

Coyne Public Relations has been named the public relations agency of record for Burger King Corp. in the U.S.

Coyne PR will support the development of a new integrated communications program that will build the brand's marketing initiatives and consumer awareness of products and promotions at Burger King restaurants nationwide. Additionally, the agency will provide corporate and executive communications support, as well as nutrition and issues management counsel.

"We met several smart and insightful agency teams during the course of this review process," said Miguel Piedra, vice president, global communications, BKC. "We believe that Coyne's deep understanding of our business needs, along with their strategic insights and creativity are the right recipe for the Burger King brand moving forward."

The agency has already begun working with BKC to develop plans in support of key initiatives throughout Q4 2011 and 2012.

"The Burger King brand is one of those stellar accounts that the entire agency has really pulled together for and is truly excited and passionate about working on," said Tom Coyne, chief executive officer, Coyne PR. "We look forward to pairing our strategic approach and imaginations with BKC's creative minds and upcoming innovations to reinvigorate the brand and show consumers the new Burger King."

Coyne Public Relations has offices in Parsippany, N.J. and New York City. Its portfolio includes Medco Health Solutions Inc., Humana, The Walt Disney Company, Goodyear, Shell Lubricants, General Mills and Hard Rock International.

Coyne replaces Edelman, which parted ways with the company in July. Edelman had worked with the chain since 2005 and did not defend the business.

In the past year, Burger King, which was acquired by 3G Capital last year, has named new media-buying and creative AORs. McGarryBowen replaced longtime AOR Crispin Porter & Boguski in the spring.

In July, Starcom was named as the media agency of record, replacing Mindshare.

Burger King UK also recently named a new AOR, CHI & Partners, in August.
