Burger King puts a saucy twist on its new 'angry' burger

Burger King is seeing red, at least when it comes to the buns on its newest U.S. menu offering.

Burger King is seeing red in the U.S., at least when it comes to the buns on its newest menu offering.

BK is introducing its new "Angriest Whopper" featuring a red bun with hot sauce baked into the bun as a limited-time offering.

As one media report notes it's unknown whether this new bun approach will impact diners’ digestive tracks as BK's black Halloween-inspired buns did last fall. The success of the Halloween burger reportedly moved BK to deliver the new saucy menu item.

"We're combining the power of these past hits into a star-studded sandwich we think our guests will unanimously agree is the next must-eat burger,” Axel Schwan,  global chief marketing officer, told Fortune.

According to Fortune the red bun isn't exactly brand new as BK launched it in Japan already as the ‘Aka Burger,’ which also featured red cheese.
