Dunkin' Donuts kicks off Alzheimer's Association campaign

September 14, 2012

For the fourth consecutive year, Dunkin' Donuts and the Alzheimer's Association Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter will partner for the "Purple with a Purpose" campaign to help raise awareness for Alzheimer's Action Day on Sept. 21. Dunkin' Donuts will host an in-restaurant campaign to raise funds during the week of Sept. 16-22.

Eastern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire Dunkin' Donuts franchisees and guests have raised more than $50,000 for the campaign since 2009.

Dunkin' Donuts will offer a special "Purple with a Purpose" donut, a vanilla-frosted yeast donut topped with purple sprinkles available at participating restaurants throughout Eastern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire during the week. One-hundred percent of each "Purple with a Purpose" donut purchased on Sept. 21 will go to The Dunkin' Donuts & Baskin-Robbins Community Foundation to benefit the Alzheimer's Association Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter.

When purchasing the special-edition donut, Dunkin' Donuts guests will receive an informational pamphlet about the Alzheimer's Association and the disease that affects 5.4 million Americans.

"Dunkin' Donuts franchisees and guests recognize the importance of supporting the 'Purple with a Purpose' campaign to raise awareness for this terrible disease that affects one in eight older Americans," said Eric Eskander, a Dunkin' Donuts franchisee from Pembroke, Mass. "Alzheimer's touches the lives of so many people, including Dunkin' Donuts franchisees, crewmembers and our guests. We are proud to support the cause in our restaurants again this year."

KidZone applications available

Dunkin' Donuts has also announced the kick-off of its 2012-2013 KidZone program. The Dunkin' Donuts KidZone is a special seating section that has hosted youth from charitable organizations at hundreds of Boston Bruins and Celtics home games for more than 10 years.

Dunkin' Donuts also sponsors the Dunkin' Dugout during Red Sox home games. Applications are now being accepted for the upcoming Bruins and Celtics season.

Non-profit organizations that are interested in the program and serve youth in the Greater Boston, Worcester, Cape Cod and Southern New Hampshire areas are encouraged to email DDKidZone@rfbinder.com to receive their application. Organizations can also follow @DunkinBoston on Twitter for application process updates through September and October. The application deadline for the Bruins and Celtics season is Sept. 30. Groups will be notified by the week of Oct. 8.
