Dunkin' Donuts mixes up Coolatta offerings

First, Dunkin' Donuts asked customers to create their own donut. Now, the chain is asking for customer input on its Coolatta beverage line.

Playing on the long-held practice of customers' creating their own frozen slush drink flavors by mixing existing Coolatta flavors, the chain has added some of the most popular combinations to its menu. The "mixology" promotion features the new lineup of Coffee & Vanilla Bean, Watermelon & Strawberry, Tropicana Orange & Vanilla Bean and other great flavor combinations. Traditional flavors include Coffee, Strawberry, Vanilla Bean and Tropicana Orange as well as Watermelon, brought back by popular demand, and the new Blue Raspberry Coolatta.

Beginning today, each of the new flavors is available at participating Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants nationwide throughout the summer for the suggested retail price of $2.29 for a small 16-ounce beverage.

Dunkin' Donuts also has introduced two new themed donut offerings, including:

  • Summer Splash Donut, featuring a yeast ring donut with chocolate icing and pink and orange nonpareils
  • Beach Ball Munchkins donut hole treats, old-fashioned cake Munchkins covered with pink and orange nonpareils.

Social media promotion

Dunkin' Donuts is promoting the new drinks with a Twitter contest and a new Pandora playlist. Throughout July, "mixologists" who follow Dunkin' Donuts on Twitter (@DunkinDonuts) can submit their recommendations for unofficial names for each of the new Coolatta mixes. Anyone who suggests a cool nickname using hashtag #DDMIX is eligible to win a $60 Dunkin' Donuts Card to enjoy refreshing Coolattas throughout the summer.

Finally, to keep everyone in a cool state of mind, Dunkin’ Donuts has created a new summer music playlist, available beginning today as a custom music station on Pandora, the popular music service that gives people music they love with personalized stations that are accessible through computers, smart phones, mobile devices and more than 100 connected consumer electronic items. In June, Dunkin' Donuts launched "Keep It Coolatta 2: Flavor Boogaloo," asking people to recommend favorite songs inspired by the flavors of Coolatta and summer. The Coolatta summer music mix is made up from the thousands of suggestions received on Dunkin' Donuts' Facebook page.
