Good Times promoting tourism in wildfire-affected Colorado

Golden, Colo.-based Good Times Restaurants Inc. has partnered with Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and other Colorado Springs, Colo.-area attractions to promote the region that was recently devastated by the most destructive wildfire in the state's history.

Denver to the Rescue, the brainchild of Good Times Burgers & Frozen Custard in Denver and Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, is a month-long campaign aimed at driving dollars to the slow-to-recover tourism industry in the Colorado Springs area during August.

"Good Times Burgers & Frozen Custard is honored to be able to do our part to help the Colorado Springs area economy recover from the lingering effects of the Waldo Canyon Fire," said Nicholas Corbishley, director of Marketing at Good Times Burgers & Frozen Custard. "As a Colorado company, we know what it is like to have events like this impact your business in a huge way. Wildfires may be a fact of life in Colorado, but so is coming together to support each other when disaster strikes."

The summer season is the most important time of the year for many Colorado Springs area attractions. Pikes Peak Country Attractions said attendance is starting to turn around, but was down between 50 and 75 percent during the fires.

"Recovery doesn't happen overnight," said Michele Starling, executive director of Pikes Peak Country Attractions. "They are definitely feeling the downturn in attendance due to the fire and will for months to come. An outpouring of support from our neighbors to the north could do wonders for not only attractions, but also area hotels and restaurants."

During August, customers can visit any one of the 35 Denver area Good Times restaurants for a special buy one, get one free admission voucher good at any of the following 12 attractions between Aug. 1 and Aug. 31:
