Great American Cookies is celebrating National Cookie Month and National Book Month in October by hosting its inaugural Reading is SWEET: 2010 National Book Drive at participating stores throughout the United States.
Actress Bridget Moynahan has teamed up with Great American Cookies as the program's spokesperson, and the drive is being supported by GFG Management, LLC, a subsidiary of Global Franchise Group.
The campaign kicks off Oct. 1 with a free original chocolate chip cookie giveaway from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at participating locations.
Throughout the remainder of the month, customers can receive a free cookie of their choice if they donate a new or gently-used book at Great American Cookies shops. All books collected will then be donated to local libraries or charities.
Moynahan has starred in movies such as "Ramona and Beezus," "I, Robot," and "The Recruit," as well as the new CBS drama "Blue Bloods." She will work with the company to promote the book drive through a radio media tour.
Great American Cookies has created a special page at www.GreatAmericanCookies.com where customers can find a participating location. The page also includes links to book donation resources and more from the American Library Association (ALA).
Information will also be available on the Great American Cookies' Facebook page, www.facebook.com/greatamericancookies, and Twitter, www.twitter.com/Gr8AmCookies, or through the company's e-mail fan club, accessible through its website above.
"We believe that literacy is a universally important cause that all of our customers and store owners can support and we're happy to provide a sweet reward for their donation," said Jenn Johnston, senior vice president of brand marketing for GFG Management, LLC.
