High consumer perception marks for Subway, Wendy’s, Chick-fil-A

July 7, 2011

Consumers 18 and older had favorable perceptions of Subway, Wendy's and Chick-fil-A in the first half of 2011, according to YouGov BrandIndex, which measures daily consumer perception of QSR brands.

Subway's score far outpaces No. 2 Wendy's, with 41.9 points versus 25.1 points. Chick-fil-A, at third, earned 20.6 points.

Rounding out the top 10 were Burger King, KFC, Arby's, McDonald's, A&W, Quiznos and Chipotle.

Outside those top 10 brands, the QSR brands making the biggest perception gains in the first half of 2011 compared to the same time period last year made very negligible improvement. They include, in order, Chipotle, Nathan's Famous, Hardees, Culvers, Blimpie, Baja Fresh, Wienerschnitzel, A&W, In-N-Out and Long John Silvers.

YouGov BrandIndex's measurement scores range from 100 to -100 and are compiled by subtracting negative feedback from positive. A zero score means equal positive and negative feedback.

All QSR brands are measured using the company's "Buzz" score, which asks respondents: "If you've heard anything about the brand in the last two weeks, through advertising, news or word of mouth, was it positive or negative?"

YouGov BrandIndex draws from 5,000 consumer responses every weekday.
