Hostie, an AI-powered guest communications platform. has added commission-free takeout ordering to its AI-powered restaurant communications platform. The add-on helps Hostie synchronize with restaurant menus and item availability. The company said the technology allows restaurants to capture direct takeout orders without relying on third-party ordering platforms that charge commissions. It also allows customers to place orders without tying up employees who are handling in-house diners and incoming calls.

Orders are visible in real time through Hostie's central inbox, which consolidates calls, texts and takeout transactions. Integrations with Toast, Olo and Square automatically transfer completed orders to the restaurant's point-of-sale system for kitchen processing, eliminating manual order entry.

Early adoption of the feature has generated more than $200,000 in takeout orders, with a 70% order completion rate and more than 18,000 items ordered, according to the San Francisco-based company.

Hostie was developed by restaurateur Randall Hom, who co-founded the company in 2024, after experiencing the challenges of managing constant phone calls while serving guests at Back to Back, his San Francisco wine bar and pizza restaurant.

The platform initially handled restaurant calls, texts, reservations, private events and guest questions. The new takeout capability expands those functions to include the entire ordering process, from menu questions and item modifications to suggested add-ons and order confirmation.

The takeout ordering capabilities are available now. Hostie works with independent restaurants, hospitality groups and enterprise restaurant brands across the country.
