Iced tea franchise HTeaO is partnering with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation this May to raise funds for childhood cancer research, according to a press release.
Starting May 1, customers at HTeaO locations have been rounding up their purchase totals to the nearest dollar. The company will also replace its signature blue straws with yellow straws throughout the month to represent pediatric cancer awareness.
Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease for children in the U.S. While 85% of children diagnosed with cancer now survive at least five years, certain types remain difficult to treat, and research remains a primary focus for advocacy groups. Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation has raised more than $300 million since 2000. The organization has funded more than 1,500 research projects at nearly 150 institutions and helped more than 15,000 families access medical care through its Travel For Care program.
"Brewing Purpose is about finding real ways to show up for the communities we serve, and our partnership with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation is a powerful example of that," Kelsey McManemin, HTeaO senior vice president of marketing, said in the release. "After seeing our guests, franchisees and team members rally behind this mission last year, we knew it was something we wanted to continue supporting. This campaign gives our guests a simple, meaningful way to help build on that impact and support the fight against childhood cancer."
Proceeds from the round-up campaign will go toward funding research and providing resources for families impacted by the disease.
"We are grateful to continue our partnership with HTeaO this May and to see its community of guests, franchisees and team members come together once again in support of children with cancer," Liz Scott, co-executive director of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, said in the release. "Every round-up helps fund the research and family support programs that bring hope to families facing childhood cancer."
HTeaO, which reached 100 locations in early 2024, operates its own supply chain and uses a proprietary filtration system for its beverage offerings. Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation began with a single front-yard stand hosted by 4-year-old Alexandra Scott, who raised $1 million for cancer research before she died at age 8.
