Jersey Mike's recently made two big charitable donations, including $1.1 million to the Susan G. Komen For the Cure organization, and $100,000 to Wreaths Across America.
The Wreaths Across America donation will help place 220,000 wreaths on each headstone in Arlington National Cemetery on the National Day of Remembrance, Dec. 10. This is the first time in Arlington's history that every veteran will be recognized with a wreath and brief moment of silence.
From June 27 through July 11, Jersey Mike's celebrated "Christmas in July" with a nationwide fundraising and awareness campaign to benefit Wreaths Across America. Every Jersey Mike's location participated in the campaign, encouraging customers and community members to donate. Each location also distributed specially designed cards thanking soldiers for their service.
"Donations are critical to successfully execute an event of this size and scope," said Karen Worcester, executive director, Wreaths Across America. "We are touched by Jersey Mike's time, energy and commitment to our mission. This donation is tremendous and will help us honor those who fought to protect our freedoms."
Fifty trucks are taking part in Wreaths Across America's annual week-long trip from Harrington, Maine, to Arlington National Cemetery to deliver the wreaths, stopping at schools, monuments, veterans' homes and communities along the way.
Jersey Mike's franchise owners from around the country will be present at Arlington National Cemetery on Dec. 10 to support the event.
Mike's Way to the Cure raises $1.1 million
Jersey Mike's also hit its fundraising goal for the Susan G. Komen For the Cure organization, raising $1.1 million. The company's national initiative launched in May and included Komen-themed sandwich wraps and bags with the iconic pink design and color. Stores also went pink, including sneeze guards, meat case banners, register counter clings and donation boxes.
Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike's founder and CEO, published a letter to the chain's entire system, congratulating and thanking everyone for their efforts.
"We've always known Jersey Mike's customers were a special 'sub' culture, joining us in our mission to make a difference in our communities and here's the proof: Our Mike's Way to the Cure campaign for Susan G. Komen for the Cure has raised $1.1 million nationwide ...
From all of us at Jersey Mike's, thank you for joining us in this effort that truly touches everyone – families, friends and co-workers ...
At Jersey Mike's, we talk about the 'power of the sub sandwich' that supports our mission statement of Giving...Making a Difference in Someone's Life. Nancy Brinker promised her sister that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever and I am proud to say that we are helping to do just that."
