KFC plans sampling campaign for new boneless chicken

May 2, 2013

KFC is promoting its new Original Recipe boneless chicken and accompanying "I Ate the Bones" advertising campaign with a "happy hour" promotion. Between 2 and 4 p.m. May 6, the first 100 consumers in each location to say the phrase "I Ate the Bones" or to ask for a free piece of Original Recipe boneless will get one piece for free.

"Original Recipe Boneless is a product you have to taste to believe, so we're excited about providing free samples to America," said Jason Marker, chief marketing officer for KFC U.S. "Just be among the first 100 people to visit a KFC restaurant between 2 and 4 and say, 'I Ate the Bones,' or ask for a free piece of Original Recipe Boneless and we'll set you up."

Also to celebrate the brand's new Original Recipe boneless ad campaign, KFC also recently launched the "I Ate the Bones" Facebook app and contest. Through June 8, weekly winners will be chosen to receive an "I Ate the Bones" T-shirt and KFC gift checks. Five Grand Prize winners will be selected to receive $1,000 and a chance to be featured in a KFC online or social media advertisement within the next year.

"'I Ate the Bones' is really catching on with the public, so we thought it would be fun to reward some of our customers' most creative interpretations of the advertising tagline," Marker said. "The five people who have the most creative executions will win $1,000 and a chance to appear in a KFC online ad."
