KFC's bowl promotion gets a little hairy

January 8, 2019

Never one not to bring something unquestionably weird to the party, Kentucky Fried Chicken is launching its new a campaign to promote $3 Famous Bowl prices and a new spicy Famous Bowl, that revolves around the infamous bowl haircut. You know the cut we're referring to, right? The ones that look amazingly like someone dumped a large bowl matching your haircolor upside-down on your head?

On Jan. 10 from 1-5 p.m. EST, the lucky residents of Brooklyn, New York, will have professional hairstyle designers on site at Ludlow Blunt at 85 North Third St. ready to shape a few heads into one of five modern-day takes on the bowl cut. Anyone who'll be in the neighborhood that day, can sign up for a time during those four hours,  with walk-ins accepted as slots are available.

The few lucky select heads will get a KFC Famous Bowl gift card and chance to be featured in all their photographic glory on KFC's Twitter channel. The bowl-beloved outside of that location and time can also show the chain's digital lookbook with their own stylists for a similar cut, which they can share with the brand on social media as well.

"I can't believe we are actually selling a pound of delicious food for just $3, and I also can't believe bowl cuts are making a comeback, but here we are," KFC U.S. CMO Andrea Zahumensky, said in the release, implying the brand itself is a little overwhelmed — or perhaps we should say "bowled over" — by the promotion.

For readers who aren't familiar with them, KFC's bowls have a based of mashed potatoes and gravy, with layers of corn, popcorn chicken and shredded cheese. Spicy Bowls have the same ingredients with the brand's Nashville Hot sauce. The $3 bowl offer continues through Jan. 27.
