Krispy Kreme Doughnuts kicks off its 75th birthday celebrations with the roll out of its Glaze the Nation Tour.
At a fan event in Daytona Beach, Fla., the company unveiled its Krispy Kreme Cruiser, which will make nearly 500 stops at local fairs and festivals throughout the country over the next few months, offering games and giveaways.
The cruiser, a newly restored and bowtie-branded 1960 Flxible Starliner, is operated by Richard Childress Racing.
April and Kelvin Locklear, owners of Mooresville, N.C.-based Outcast Kustoms, and their team of Pro Race Drivers Ron Hornaday and Ted Musgrave led the restoration of the cruiser.
The restoration has been chronicled for an episode of Velocity's new Outcast Kustoms which airs April 2, 8 p.m. EST.
The cruiser's path can be followed at GlazetheNationTour.com, which includes pictures, videos and blogs.
"Because our purpose is to 'touch and enhance lives through the joy that is Krispy Kreme' we felt it was important to get out of our shops and take the party on the road," said Dwayne Chambers, chief marketing officer for Krispy Kreme. "We searched the entire country to find a vehicle that had just the right balance of nostalgia, retro and cool. There were a lot of possibilities, but our search always seemed to come back to the Flxible."
