On the heels of being cited as having the "worst meal in America" by the Center for Science in Public Interest, Long John Silver's has released another statement regarding its use of transfat in its Big Catch LTO.
The chain claims that recent news coverage has "left out important facts." For example, Long John Silver's restaurants in California, New York, Boston, Seattle, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Albany, N.Y., and Puerto Rico use transfat free cooking oils. They have been doing so since 2008 in California and since 2009 in the other markets, according to the company.
"Because of this, restaurants in these locations prepare their products transfat free contrary to the recent announcement from the Center for Science in the Public Interest regarding trans fat," the company says.
The limited-time Big Catch basket is offered at $4.99 and includes a choice of side and hushpuppies.
The company continues, "Long John Silver's offers a variety of meal choices including both fried and non-fried fish and shrimp that can satisfy almost every diner's dietary choices. Our website includes complete nutrition information including a special selection of delicious, under 600-calorie meals."
This is the second statement released by Long John Silver's since CSPI's ranking came out earlier this month.
