The value train is steaming ahead in the QSR sector this new year with McDonald's doubling down on its' commitment to customer deals today with its new $1 $2 $3 Dollar Menu. And the chain is using the three-week Lunar New Year holiday season as a way to promote it. Traditionally, some Asian cultures celebrate the season by giving loved ones red envelopes filled with money, and McDonald's has partnered with famed Chinese-American designer, Anna Sui, to build its own celebration around Sui-designed red envelopes, a news release said.
Sui incorporated value-themed well wishes and the 2018 Year of the Dog celebrations into her envelope designs which feature artwork of popular Asian dog breeds, including the pug and shiba inu.
The designer red envelopes will be available to fans on Tuesday, Jan. 23, starting at 1:23 p.m. at San Francisco's Japantown Peace Plaza. That's also where McDonald's will unveil a $1 $2 $3 Dollar Menu-inspired arcade game that incorporates Sui's designs. Everyone playing the game gets a set of Anna Sui x McDonald's Year of the Dog red envelopes while supplies last, as well as chances to win more prizes.
Outside San Francisco next Tuesday, McDonald's will work with social media darlings, Miss Gina Darling (@MissGinaDarling) and Leenda D (@LeendaDAvenue) who will also give away the envelopes through social media sweepstakes via their Facebook and Instagram channels.
"I'm thrilled to team up with McDonald's to recognize such an important cultural holiday," said Anna Sui. "These envelopes re-imagine centuries-old traditions by celebrating diversity and its power to bring forth new ideas."
The $1 $2 $3 Dollar Menu is now available nationwide and features breakfast, burger and chicken options at every price tier, including the following:
