McDonald's promoted its new Frozen Strawberry Lemonade drink with an unusual Twitter promotion worth up to $10,000.
The company spent most of last week searching for the perfect Twitter duo – whether they're significant others, best friends, siblings or virtual friends. The couple that is able to prove they go together like strawberry and lemon will win $5,000 in cash and $5,000 in travel vouchers.
The beginning of the promotion ran through May 15 and was only open to U.S. citizens who have a Twitter account. Submitted tweets included a link to the Rules page, the hashtag #McDFSLPairs and the Twitter username of the other half of the pair.
An example from the Rules page: "#McDFSLPairs Me & @danjkaren have dated for 5 years. We r perfect b/c I love 2 cook & he loves 2 eat! http://bit.ly/hK0wCH."
Ten pairs will be chosen as finalists today, each receiving a flip camera. The camera is to be used to make a video about why they're the best team for the grand prize.
The three highest scores will be notified after the conclusion of the voting period, on or around June 14. The grand prize winning pair and two runners-up pairs will be announced online on or after June 24.
