With the year's trading nearly complete, McDonald's Corp. has topped all Dow Jones stocks with a 2011 gain of 30.47 percent.
McDonald's Corp. is on track to lead all 30 components of the Dow Jones Industrial Average in stock performance for the year, according to data compiled by Dow Jones Indexes.
Through Dec. 23, shares of the Golden Arches are ahead of IBM Corp., Pfizer Inc. and Home Depot Inc., the second, third and fourth leading performers in The Dow, with gains of 25.89 percent, 24.67 percent and 20.08 percent, respectively.
These companies are the only stocks that have gained more than 20 percent at this point. Kraft Foods Inc. (up 19.77 percent) rounds out The Dow's top five 2011 performers.
The Dow Jones average is up 6.19 percent from its 2010 close. In 2010, the Dow was up 11.02 percent from its 2009 close.
Oak Brook, Ill.-based McDonald's and Home Depot, based in Atlanta, are the only DJIA components poised to repeat their Top 5 showings from 2010, when they finished third and fourth with gains of 26.94 percent and 24.96 percent, respectively, from 2009's close.
Coca-Cola Co. finished the year at 15th with a 6.34 percent increase.
The Dow's worst performer so far is Bank of America Corp., with shares down 58.02 percent through Dec. 23, nearly 16 percentage points worse than Alcoa Inc. (down 42.37 percent).
