Northwest Dairy Queen supplier recalls milk and juice products

August 18, 2010

Umpqua Dairy, based out of Roseburg, Oregon, has recalled its milk and juice products after an outbreak of salmonella was traced back to the company.

The recall has been issued to retailers in Washington, Oregon and Northern California. According to the Statesman Journal, the company supplies milk to Dairy Queen restaurants in Oregon and Washington.

Products affected include milk, half-and-half, cream, buttermilk, orange juice and fruit drinks. Ice cream, sour cream and cottage cheese were not affected.

Twenty-three people have reportedly fallen ill with the same strain of bacteria. Two have been hospitalized. Health officials first received reports in October, but only recently linked the strain to the plant.

Umpqua Dairy temporarily has suspended operation until its processing systems are reviewed and cleared.
