Philadelphia area McDonald's raising money for libraries

July 16, 2012

McDonald's Restaurants of the Greater Philadelphia Region have announced the return of the Ronald McDonald Summer Library Tour. The objective is to raise money to help support free libraries in the area, many of which are experiencing funding deficits.

As part of the Tour, Ronald McDonald will attend four area libraries to perform his "It's Book Time with Ronald" show and make $1,000 donations to the children's sections of the libraries.

The four participating libraries are:

  • Newark Free Library: Newark, Del., July 19, 10:30 a.m.;
  • Lawncrest Branch Library: Philadelphia, Aug. 6, 10:30 a.m.;
  • Bridgeton Free Public Library: Bridgeton, N.J., Aug. 7, 10:30 a.m.; and
  • North Wales Area Library: North Wales, Pa., Aug. 14, 10 a.m.

In addition to the tour, more than 100 libraries from across the region are participating in the second annual Ronald McDonald Summer Reading Program, which features the distribution of McDonald's bookmarks to children with memberships to each participating library. Once a child has read 10 books throughout the course of the summer, they will be able to take the bookmark to their local McDonald's to redeem it for a free Happy Meal.
