Preaching to the choir: KFC launches $10 bucket deal

March 15, 2011

KFC has launched its “10-piece 10 Buck Sunday Bucket Deal,” offering 10 pieces of Original Recipe, Extra Crispy or Kentucky Grilled Chicken for $10 plus tax on Sundays at participating restaurants nationwide.

Customers may also mix recipes in their Sunday Buckets.

To celebrate this new deal, KFC is searching for struggling church or community choirs across the country to sing in-restaurant for the chance to win a $1,000 grant.

As part of KFC’s new pilot program, the company issued an open letter, penned by John Cywinski, general manager of KFC U.S., to choral organizations nationwide, asking them to describe how they could make beautiful music in a restaurant near them.

Eleven choirs will be chosen to sing at a local KFC and will receive $1,000 to help keep their groups singing.

Members of The St. Louis Children’s Choirs kicked off the program at a KFC restaurant in St. Louis last week, with the KFC Colonel serving as guest conductor. The group was the first to receive a $1,000 donation from the company.

The idea behind this initiative is to help non-profit organizations that have been hit hard financially. Performing arts were especially affected by the recent recession.

“Colonel Sanders was always passionate about giving back, so the chance for KFC to support local choirs was a natural fit,” said Barry Westrum, chief marketing officer for KFC. “Especially in these tough economic times, we hope these live choral performances and our 10 Buck Sunday Buckets will be music to our customers' ears, especially on a day that’s always been about coming together.”

Choirs interested in participating should send an inquiry email with their organization’s name and contact information to KFCSundayBuckets@gmail.com. Nominations will be accepted until March 31.
