San Francisco-based SpoonRocket, an on-demand meal delivery startup, has announced that it now accepts Bitcoin as a form of payment.
"SpoonRocket was built on the principle[s] of convenience and speed, and we're always looking for ways to make life easier for our rocketeers," said Anson Tsui, chief technology officer and co-founder of SpoonRocket, in a company press release. "Digital currency will be an important part of the future, and we're excited to be the first on-demand meal delivery to start accepting Bitcoin."
Bitcoin is an emerging peer-to-peer virtual currency that functions as a decentralized payment network and offers to reduce fees, settlement times and other frictions associated with traditional payments. Bitcoin is secured by the same state-of-the-art cryptography used by the military.
SpoonRocket is teaming up with SNAPCARD, based in San Francisco, to process payments and manage Bitcoin conversion into U.S. dollars.
