Subway restaurants and Clear Channel Radio have announced a new nationwide competition for music artists and bands. The competition, "Subway Fresh Artists," will award the winning musician or band with the opportunity to open for the Goo Goo Dolls in an upcoming concert.
The competition initially started on Sept. 10 with an invitation to musicians to devise a new “wake up” song for the brand’s “Build Your Better Breakfast” campaign. The public will vote for their favorite artist through iheartradio.com network, Clear Channel Radio’s websites and OurStage.com.
Already, consumers have selected their favorites by voting more than 280,000 times and downloading 1,230 "wake up" songs.
"We are providing an opportunity for emerging musical artists to perform and be heard by a larger audience,” Tony Pace, Subway franchisee advertising fund trust CMO. “We are pleased to give our consumers an early peak at some emerging artists. We also believe in multi-platform programs, and this works well across several media content platforms."
The top 50 fan favorite artists and bands from each of the 10 regions in the U.S. will advance to the second round on Oct. 1. Then, a panel of Clear Channel Radio programming directors will choose one winner from each region. Those advancing will receive $500 in Subway gift cards and $1,000 in cash prizes.
The winner of the competition will receive a $1,000 cash prize, a session with a professional songwriter and the chance to open for the Goo Goo Dolls.
In addition, 10 regional winners will receive a $50 Subway card and a Goo Goo Dolls merchandise package.
