Taco Bell is teaming up with Duolingo to take its National Taco Day celebration worldwide for the first time, turning Oct. 6 into "Global Taco Day" with a new limited-edition sauce, language-learning promotions and events in several countries, the company announced in a news release.

At the center of the collaboration is Duo Habanero Sauce, a new bright and tangy sauce featuring fruity notes and habanero heat. Its packaging combines Taco Bell's signature sauce-packet sayings with Duolingo's language-learning theme, featuring taco-inspired messages in nine languages, including English, Spanish, French, Hindi, Portuguese, German, Korean, Mandarin and Japanese.

The sauce will launch Oct. 6 at participating Taco Bell restaurants in the U.S., Canada, Australia, China, India, Spain and the U.K. In the U.S., customers can receive one free Duo Habanero Sauce packet with the purchase of a Doritos Locos Taco, with additional packets available for 20 cents each.

"National Taco Day is about more than just food. It's about the shared love of tacos and the connections they create between people. This year, we're taking that love global," Luis Restrepo, chief marketing officer of Taco Bell North America, said in a company press release. "The fact that 'taco' is understood in more than 30 languages proves just how universal it is."

The partnership extends beyond the menu. From Oct. 1-6, Taco Bell Rewards members can unlock one free month of Super Duolingo. The companies are also offering 1,000 limited-edition Taco Bell x Duo plushies globally, including through Taco Bell's Tuesday Drops promotion in the U.S. on Oct. 6.

"Language and food are two of the most powerful ways we connect with culture and with each other," Duolingo chief marketing officer Emmanuel Orssaud said in the release. "Taco is a rare word that travels easily across cultures, making it a fun starting point for getting people curious about language."

Global Taco Day also will include in-person events around the world. Duolingo mascot Duo and friends will take over Taco Bell's Midtown Cantina in New York City on Oct. 6, with additional activations planned in Toronto, Mumbai and Shanghai.

The campaign continues Taco Bell's efforts to expand National Taco Day. The brand previously worked to free the "Taco Tuesday" trademark for broader use and, in 2024, partnered with National Day Calendar to move National Taco Day to the first Tuesday in October.
