Taco Bell took Taco John's to task earlier this year to get the latter brand torelinquish its "Taco Tuesday" trademark. Taco John's gave up its trademark, which was applicable in 49 states except New Jersey, where the phrase was held by Gregory's Restaurant and Bar.

According to a press release from Taco Bell, Gregory's gave up its right to the "Taco Tuesday" phrase this month, making way for the Mexican QSR to use it in New Jersey.

To celebrate the New Jersey Taco Tuesday liberation, Taco Bell will offer New Jersey-based Taco Bell Rewards members a free Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos Taco on Nov. 21 through the brand's app with no purchase necessary. The taco is free at participating New Jersey Taco Bell locations.

"When we set out to free Taco Tuesday, we did it for all who make, sell, eat and celebrate tacos," Sean Tresvant, Taco Bell chief global brand and strategy officer and incoming CEO, said in the release. "Taco Bell wants everyone to have the opportunity to celebrate Taco Tuesday, including Gregory's Restaurant and Bar. Thanks to Gregory's choice to relinquish the trademark registration, New Jersey businesses and fans can fully enjoy Taco Tuesday, effective immediately."

"Taco Tuesday has always been a source of pride for my family and our restaurant, but we recognize Taco Tuesday is widely celebrated and embraced beyond our four walls," Gregory Gregory, co-owner of Gregory's Restaurant and Bar, said in the release. "We're excited to share Taco Tuesday with the entire New Jersey community and though we've relinquished the trademark registration, you can bet Taco Tuesdays will live on at Gregory's forever."
