Trump's controversial Mexican statements flavor Burger King Russia's new Whopper
A Russian government-controlled online publication, Sputnik News, is reporting that Burger King Russia is now selling a new "Trump Burger," commemorating this week's election of Donald Trump as the 45th U.S. president. The publication quotes a statement from the chain in Russia, that says, "Burger King Russia will very soon release the new 'Trump Burger'. In fact, this is a double 'Angriest Whopper,' The only difference is that you can’t order any sauces or food of Mexican origin," the publication quoted the chain's Russian arm as stating in a news release.
That last statement in the Sputnik News article is referring to the fact that the aforementioned "Angriest Whopper" is typically served with a complement of Mexican culinary flavors, including the chain's spiciest burger sauce, as well as jalapeno peppers and onion rings. During the presidential campaign, Trump repeatedly made controversial and often offensive statements regarding individuals of Mexican descent, as well as his assertion that he plans to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico, which he has told voters will be entirely paid for by the Mexican government, which strongly disagrees.
According to Sputnik News, the new Trump sandwich is the continuation of a trend that started in the country last week when a Russian fast-food brand, Roll Race, started selling sandwiches themed around U.S. presidents. QSRweb.com has requested a comment and further information from Burger King here in the U.S. to gain further understanding of its relations with the Russian chain. We will report any information obtained as it is received.
