The build-your-own model is quickly becoming the rule rather than the exception in the restaurant industry, thanks to fast casual players such as Chipotle. It has made its way into the pizza space and even McDonald's has tried out the model.
Now, Wendy's is testing a build-your-own sandwich program. According to USA Today, the trial is taking place at two restaurants in Wendy's hometown of Columbus, Ohio. It allows customers to choose their bun (including the brand's pretzel bun), meat, sauce and toppings.
The brand's spokesperson Bob Bertini said the operational test is very limited and declined to discuss further details.
