Wienerschnitzel has announced the return of its 99-cent Original Chili Dog deal available through Jan. 22.
The promotion is the first of many during Wienerschnitzel's 2012 "Heritage" advertising campaign, which will focus on the brand's authenticity, company history and themes from the 1960s and '70s.
Company founder, John Galardi, will play an instrumental role in 2012 as the face of the brand. In a series of commercials, Galardi will share stories from Wienerschnitzel's early days and promote a variety of food deals, starting with the 99-cent Original Chili Dog promotion.
The commercial began airing earlier this week and features Galardi sharing how, back in the early 1960s, he would try just about anything to get customers in the doors. He eventually realized that brand loyalty comes down to the food, and that his "secret weapon" was his proprietary chili recipe.
"From day one, more than 50 years ago, it's the food that's been driving customers in, and it's the reason our loyal guests keep coming back," said Tom Amberger, vice president of marketing for Wienerschnitzel. "We understand that authenticity and transparency is important to consumers so we thought: what better way to announce our 99-Cent Chili Dog deal than straight from the man who made it all possible."
The Original Chili Dog is a grilled hot dog covered with Wienerschnitzel's signature chili and served in a steamed hot dog bun.
