Popeyes announced Wednesday that its Spicy and Mild Bonafide bone-in fried chicken was voted the favorite in a national taste test against KFC's Original Recipe fried chicken.
The company celebrated the win by inviting fans to wear Popeyes' signature orange in Times Square, therefore turning the iconic city block orange. The announcement was made on the NASDAQ, Reuters, and ABC billboards. Popeyes' CMO Dick Lynch was in New York City to mark the win.
The announcement was supported by the company's largest marketing and advertising push in its history. The taste test isn't the only success being celebrated by the Popeyes' faithful.
The chain's traffic, same store sales and market share continue to climb. Popeyes also expects to continue its expansion into new international markets this year, and maintain a growth plan in existing markets.
“Our guests show us and tell us everyday just how much they love our chicken, and we are thrilled with this taste test win,” said Cheryl Bachelder, president and CEO of Popeyes. “We are proud of our recipe-inspired menu and rich culinary heritage steeped in our Louisiana roots and appreciate taste test participants nationwide declaring what we’ve always known.”
