Culver's names Hometown Hall of Fame winner

December 11, 2011

Volunteers, firefighters, veterans and more were among the 1,000 nominees in Culver's Facebook Hometown Hall of Fame contest.

Facebook fans voted Chris Ellberg of Peru, Ill., as the grand prize winner.

Along with her sister Susan, Ellberg established the Illinois Valley Animal Rescue, which helps animals find a loving home. Culver's is awarding Ellberg the $5,000 prize and her nominator, Tricia Gray, a $350 Culver's gift card.

"We were overwhelmed by the response we received to the Hometown Hall of Fame," says Craig Culver, co-founder and CEO of Culver's. "These nominees are the heart and soul of their communities – we thank everyone who took the time to nominate and vote for their heroes."

Ellberg hopes to purchase a new van for the shelter to use with animal rescue efforts.

In addition to awarding Ellberg the grand prize, Culver's also is recognizing 19 runners-up with a $50 Culver's gift card each for their commitment to making their communities a better place. Guests can read the stories of all the heroes on Culver's Facebook page.
