Ahead of the Oct. 1 liability deadline, WAND releases new EMV terminals and promises enhanced protection and security measures.

WAND Corporation, a global restaurant technology provider, has released a payment software solution from Verifone and Ingenico for its POS systems, according to a recent press release. Unlike the former POS system, which had users swipe cards, the new EMV terminals allow cards/chips to be dipped into them, thus adding a new security dimension to protect against credit card fraud and hacking during transactions, according to the report.
The main buyers of this software are those preparing for the upcoming Oct. 1 liability shift, when liability will move from the credit card companies to the merchants themselves, said Chuck Gehman, WAND’s VP of Product Management.
“The EMV liability shift is obviously a huge topic in the restaurant industry,” he said. “What we’re seeing is a large number of customers who are getting their EMV terminals in place now, even if their chosen payment processors aren’t completely ready yet, because there are such great benefits to be recognized.”
Gehman also said in the report that the EMV terminals and the software would begin protection of multi-unit restaurant operators before the October deadline.
