Kids have opportunity to name penguin through Burger King's Crown Program

February 3, 2012

Burger King's new BK Crown Program has partnered with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) for a promotion that runs through March 4.

Through the promotion, children have the opportunity to name a 1-year-old male, black-footed penguin residing at the New York Aquarium in Coney Island, Brooklyn, N.Y. They can submit their name ideas through Feb. 19 at BKCrown.com.

The five most popular names will be posted on the site, and children can come back to vote for their favorite from Feb. 20 through March 4. The winning name will be announced the week of March 5, followed by a naming ceremony at the New York Aquarium.

"We've enjoyed a strong relationship with the Wildlife Conservation Society and we are excited to be working with them on this latest promotion," said Alex Macedo, senior vice president, North American marketing, Burger King Corp. "Choosing the penguin's name will allow children to feel a part of this young penguin's life and will teach them that they can make a big difference in the world around them."

The BK Crown Program has established a fund to help support charities involved in improving education and protecting the environment and wildlife. Since the program launched in November, WCS has received more than 50 percent of all fan vote support.

"Our partnership with Burger King Corp. has helped us to educate young Americans about the importance of saving wildlife and wild places, while providing direct support for our conservation programs." said Bertina Ceccarelli, executive vice president, Global Resources, WCS.
