McDonald's is testing a lineup of chicken flatbread items, as announced via the company's Twitter account this week. According to McDonald's website, the flatbreads include Tuscan Tomato Basil, Four Cheese, BBQ Bacon Ranch and Southwest.
Each includes grilled chicken. The Tuscan Tomato Basic flatbread also features basil pesto, tomatoes and garlic aioli. Four cheese includes a blend of cheddar, Monterey Jack, mozzarella and fontina blends, plus garlic aioli. Southwest flatbreads entail guacamole and pico de gallo, and the BBQ bacon ranch item comes with bacon, barbecue ranch sauce and a four-cheese blend.
Test markets include Baltimore, Nebraska and New Mexico.
Each flatbread has less than 300 calories. They are being sold at a suggested retail price of $1.89.
Quick-service restaurants have been tinkering with nontraditional sandwich items for a few years, attempting to attract a larger customer base.
Although smaller, the flatbreads include similar components to the chicken grande wrap items that are also being tested at a handful of McDonald's units.
The chicken grande wraps include diced cucumber, shredded cheese, sliced tomato and lettuce. Three varieties are currently being tested, including Garden Ranch, with ranch sauce; Roma Pesta, with tomato pesto and garlic aioli; and Santa Fe BBQ, with barbecue ranch sauce, black beans and corn.
