In celebration of Sbarro's 70th anniversary, the company has launched its "70 Years – One Iconic Slice" campaign. The campaign recognizes seven decades of delivering the Original XL New York pizza-by-the-slice while continuing to evolve to meet the needs of today's on-the-go consumer, according to a press release.

Based in Columbus, Ohio, Sbarro has grown to more than 850 restaurants across 35 countries.

Founded in 1956 by Gennaro and Carmela Sbarro, the brand began as a neighborhood Italian salumeria in Brooklyn, New York. Built on family recipes, quality ingredients and warm hospitality, the small grocery quickly became a destination for authentic Italian food, expanding throughout the New York metropolitan area.

"As we celebrate 70 years, we're honoring the vision of Gennaro and Carmela Sbarro and the values they built this company upon: quality, authenticity and taking pride in every slice we serve," David Karam, chief executive officer of Sbarro, said in the press release. "Our commitment has always been simple: preserve what made our pizza iconic while continually finding new ways to better serve our guests. That balance between tradition and innovation has fueled our success for 70 years, and it's what will carry Sbarro into the future."

Sbarro has opened more than 100 new restaurants annually for the past four years and a fifth consecutive year is on pace for the same and includes recent entries into Chile, Panama, Colombia and Poland.

As part of its "70 Years – One Iconic Slice" anniversary celebration, Sbarro is thanking guests with a limited-time offer. From now through October 17, guests at participating Sbarro restaurants can add any XL NY slice to any combo purchase for only $2.
