TCBY marks 30th anniversary with new flavor

January 5, 2011

In 1981, TCBY frozen yogurt opened its doors for the first time in Little Rock, Ark. Founded by Frank and Georgia Hickingbotham, TCBY’s original trademark was its classic swirl.

Now there are more than 600 locations around the world with 70 flavors of frozen yogurt, seven live active cultures, probiotic options and more.

To kick off the 30th Anniversary, TCBY has launched the Red Velvet Cake soft serve frozen yogurt for a limited time. The new flavor is under the new classification for healthy frozen yogurt called “Super Fro-Yo,” and includes less than 120 calories per serving size.

Also, TCBY is hosting a YouTube contest offering customers a chance to tell the world what the brand means to them in a 30-second message. The spot can feature a song, story, poem or any other communicative effort.

The winner will receive an entire year of free fro-yo at any of the TCBY locations nationwide. To enter, fans, 18 years and older, must submit an entry form online along with a link to their video on YouTube.

The contest, now underway, runs through Feb. 28. The winner will be announced March 15.

“This company has such a rich culture, and still exudes Frank and Georgia’s happy, healthy, good-for-you atmosphere,” said Tim Casey, CEO of TCBY. “Thirty years is a remarkable time for a concept that many felt was a fad when it first began.  The food and beverage industry has seen so many changes over the years, but TCBY has always remained a constant in offering a healthy indulgence for those looking to reward themselves in a nutritious way.”
