Wendy's crowdsourcing Facebook for cheeseburger ideas

Wendy's Facebook page now includes a "Show Us How You Melt" promotion asking fans to create their own cheeseburger "as good as the brand's new Bacon Portabella Melt."

Fans are asked to build their cheeseburger creation, take a photo of it and them submit it to Wendy's Facebook page. Three finalists will be chosen to win a trip to New York City, where their melts will be judged by Jon Hein, celebrity foodie and host of "Fast Food Mania."

The winner will earn $5,000 and their creation could appear on Wendy's menu.

The promotion page includes a video featuring "cheeseburger experts" discussing their most unusual cheeseburger experience. For example, Chef Dale Talde said barbecue sauce and onion rings have been his favorite toppings. Hein said he once tried whipped cream on a cheeseburger, which was a "unique-tasting experience."

Fan submissions thus far include an Eggs Benedict Burger; a Corn, Black Bean Chili Melt; an Onion Garden Cheesy Melt; an Avocado Sprout Burger; a Grilled Pineapple Bacon; and a Biehr Brat Burger.
