Yum! Brands moving away from BPA-laced receipt paper

May 16, 2011

Yum! Brands, parent company of Taco Bell, KFC and Pizza Hut, announced that it will transition away from receipt paper that contains bisphenol A (BPA).

According to Triple Pundit, Yum!'s decision follows other companies that have recently abandoned BPA-laced paper, including Kroger and Whole Foods.

At issue is a growing pile of evidence that suggests BPA negatively affects endocrine and nervous systems. Still the chemical remains unregulated at a national level. A few states ban BPA in children's products.

Despite a shareholder vote last year on the issue, Coca-Cola continues to use the chemical in beverage can liners, claiming it extends the shelf life of canned products.
