True Food Kitchen, Bareburger top emerging brands list

At the top of data analytics firm Fishbowl's emerging brands list, this year, is a concept that encapsulates just about everything consumers are demanding today on its menu. With offerings of vegetables, pizzas, sandwiches, salads, tacos and soup, True Food Kitchen came out as the No. 1 brand on the firm's Top 30 emerging brands report, possibly showing that those stripped-down menu restaurants are still facing tough competition from the "something-for-everyone" brands.

The fifth annual report hones in on restaurant brands that show strong promise for potential growth in the year ahead, based on the analysis of social data, a news release said. The report identifies emerging brands within the restaurant industry that are growing while embracing progressive and innovative and approaches to food, service, atmosphere and their audience.

Fishbowl has learned that consumers often discover these brands early in their development and become emotionally invested in their growth, creating an active sense of ownership that drives loyalty and increases vocal support via social media.

The top 10 on the list are — in order — as follows:
1.    True Food Kitchen
2.    Bareburger
3.    Harvest  Seasonal Grill
4.    Firebird's Wood Fired Grill
5.    Tupelo Honey Café
6.    La Colombe Coffee
7.    The Lazy Dog
8.    Mendocino Farms
9.    HopCat
10.  Cava Grill.

This year, Fishbowl included a new element to its' ranking process it calls the Fishbowl Social Score. This metric uses key performance indicators to rate restaurants' success in social media on a one-to-10 scale across multiple social channels. This also includes an analysis of consumer feedback, measurements of social activity per location, and something the company called an "Enthusiasm Index."

The 11 through 30 spots on this year's list are as follows:
•    Matchbox
•    PDQ Chicken
•    Coopers Hawk
•    Luna Grill

Distinctive to the 2018 list is the diversity of concepts that consumers seek today including everything from burger joints and family restaurants, to taverns, vegetarian, Asian, chicken, coffee, pizza, salad and juice brands.

"The practice of being strongly mission-driven is important," Fishbowl's Chief Analytics Officer Mike Lukianoff, said in the release. "Combine that characteristic with high-quality food and exceptional customer service and it's a recipe for success that breaks through the clutter in what is a very crowded and competitive marketplace."
